She’s my first really GOOD bass guitar.

She’s now 11 years old and sounding better each passing year. Just like fine wine, fine bass guitars sound better in time coz their wood’s age gives way to growth in resonance and texture. I used to take care of her really well, applying oil to her skin, cleaning every part, but have neglected much of the care for sometime. Now, she needs a bit of a lift and I will attend to that soon. Maybe I’ll take her to bass guitar doctors in the Philippines (care to recommend folks?).

She has a Hipshot Bass Extender Key coz I like to detune to D without resorting to a 5 string bass guitar.

She’s been to the Curacao, Saint Maarten and Miami (USA) and been the house bass at Sound Weavers, too, thereby gracing quite a few CDs and recordings.

Like I said, just sharing.

I’ve been looking for a small footprint external DVD drive since my MacBook Pro’s superdrive started rejecting any kind of disc that I feed to it. I have a Plextor PX-708UF but it is so bulky and it requires a power adapter that adds to the bulk.

I need security when burning backups of my multi-track audio sessions. These multi-track sessions can run up at least 4GBs per song, imagine 12 tracks of drums, 2 tracks of bass, at least  tracks of guitar, and so on and so forth. At sample rates of 48Khz and bit rate of 24, we’re talking lots of GIGs in data capacity. This self-powered DVD burner is a perfect complement to my mobile data recording and backup needs on my MacBook Pro.

My bro “Jayson” is a certified rap freak and rhyme wiz, he’s an upcoming MC with much promise. On this vid he couldn’t wait to share his great rhyme work on an unfinished track for the sabungero cockfighting flick. the tune ain’t done yet, we gonna pretty it up some more, dirty it up a bit with some horns, strings and maybe lots of atmos and ambience from the cockpits.

oh yeah, hip hop beat production and programming by Gerry, Jonathan and Neil at 2808 Sound Weavers Recording Studio in Makati, Philippines. Not just loops or samples, we played real instruments on this track, acoustic guitars, bass guitar, electric wah guitar, eBow on acoustic and electrics, keyboards, that’s why the beat is so thick like a mutha.

We just finished a very demanding project involving the music, score and sound for indie film Sabungero.

Sabungero is about the game of cockfighting in the Philippines. The main actors are Joel Torre, Ricky Davao and Maritoni Fernandez together with a stellar supporting cast Syd Lucero, Robert Arevalo, Noni Buencamino and Leo Martinez among others. Produced by Sabong.net.Ph - this independently produced movie will be shown at SM commercial theaters in the last week of September.

For the movie’s sound and score, sound co-producer and audio engineer Jonathan Reynera did a lot of re-recordings of sounds and noises by chickens, in cockfighting action, and the sound of the cockpits with people and bettors shouting their bets and reactions before and after a fight. There was also a bit of custom foley sounds recorded to really embellish particular scenes.
